The newly-appointed Indonesian ambassadors in Thailand met with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today in a move to further solidify bilateral ties.

Ms Yingluck welcomed Lao Ambassador to Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Lee Boonkham, during his visit this afternoon, while reiterating the stance set by his predecessor that Laos’ security is considered Thailand’s security. The premier said she looks forward to strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations as well as improving regional cooperation.

Ms Yingluck is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with her Lao counterpart on June 2.

Following the visit from H.E. Mr Lee, Ms Yingluck also met with the new Indonesian ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Lutfi Rauf. She said Thailand is eager to expand economic cooperation and trade with Indonesia, particularly in the halal food industry, energy, tourism and fisheries. Ms Yingluck also thanked the President of Indonesia for his confirmed attendance at the upcoming World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 in Thailand. Both leaders are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on fishery cooperation as well as another agreement on visa waiver for diplomats and government officials.
