Chiang Mai Flooding Prompts Consulate of British Closure

Flooding in Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand has forced the closure of the British Consulate for safety reasons.

The Travellers are being advised to contact the British Embassy in Bangkok if they require consular assistance.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office also advised people to visit the Help for British nationals page of its website while the consulate is shut.

The U.S. Ambassador Visited Tham Hin Refugee Camp

The Ambassador of U.S. Embassy: Kenney visited Tham Hin refugee camp in Ratchaburi province. Tham Hin refugee camp is home to nearly 8,000 Burmese, the majority of whom are members of the Karen ethnic group, who have fled war in their na-tive land. During her visit, Ambassador Kenney met with NGO’s and talked with camp refugees. In addition, the Ambassador visited the camp’s health clinic, food supply center, and main water source. The U.S. government funds health, environmental, water and sanitation, food, shelter, capacity building programs that benefit the refugees. At the end of the day, Ambassador Kenney interviewed with two journalists to discuss U.S. policy towards refugees. During the interview, the Ambassador said the U.S. government is committed to assisting refugees and will continue funding programs that benefit the refugees. The Ambassador added that since 2005, the United States has resettled 60,000 Burmese refugees to the United States from Thailand. She added that nearly 10,000 will be resettled this year.
